I need help making my computers sound speakers to work?

Ive been trying to make my computer speakers work..but they just wont. I heard I was supposed to remove a sound blaster, but every time I look for it in the manage my computer thing. I've never found it and I don't know what to do. Not even the headphones will work. I don't have speakers attached to the monitor. I have 2 mini speakers that attached to a big speaker attached to the computer. I have windows Vista x64. any help would be great.
