Help! My new laptop just told me my Norton Internet Security expires in 7 days! How can I remedy this? (cont.)

How can I remedy the problem without having to fork out $$$? I tried to download AVG free but everytime I did the file was corrupted. I don't even know if that program would fix the problem anyway?! I don't know anything!!! Any trade secrets?
